Distributed File System

If your computer is connected to the network can take advantage of various facilities provided by Microsoft Windows Server 2003. One of the facilities that will be described in this section is the File Server and Print Server. By installing the File Server and Print Server all computers connected to the LAN network may use the facility simultaneously. Therefore, these facilities is very important to know and learn.

1. File Sharing
If you've installed the files or directories are sharing, then the file or directory can be used simultaneously from the Client. But before the file can be executed from the client you must install it or make the file can be used by all users in the network. For the following installation procedure is described in the file server to be used from the Client.
To install the files or directories on the server to be utilized by all users in the network are as follows:

  • Click Start
  • Click Programs
  • Click Administrative Tools
  • Click the Configure Your Server. After that the dialog box Configure Your Server soon to look like figure 1.

  • Click Add Folder Share. After that will show a dialog box Shared Folder Wizard
  • Click Next to continue
  • Click the Browse button to the folder to the Share, will perform Browse Folder dialog box.
  • Double-click one of the drives, such as DATA (D:) that will perform the complete contents of the drive is
  • After that will appear throughout the existing folder on the D drive, click a folder.
  • Click OK, and then you click Next to continueli>
  • Click on the Share Name field, then type a share name for the folder, for example MODUL-HL
  • Click on the Share description field, then type: Used public.

  • Click Next.
  • Click one of the desired option. Because of this folder to the general nature so that all users who connect to the network can access it, then click All users have read-only access
  • Click Finish to end the definition of these share folders and boxes will appear doalog Share a Folder Wizard next.
  • Click the Close button
  • You can follow the steps I have described to define the drive, folder or other file sharing.
  • 2. DFS (Distributed File System)
  • You can also create a folder that was made into a sharing service called DFS. With DFS you can put the folder sharing in Active Directory. Steps are as follows:
  • Click Start
  • Click Programs
  • Click Administrative Tools
  • Click the DFS (Distributed Files System). After that dialog box will appear DFS
  • Click Action
  • Click the New Root. Once you implement some of these steps will show a dialog box New Root Wizard
  • Click Next
  • In this view you click the Domain root
  • Click Next to continue. After that quickly Domain names and dialog boxes New Root Wizard.

  • After you specify the server name click Next again to continue
  • Click the Browse button to specify the name of the server computer or other computers in the network, in this example its name is MUGI-CN
  • Click the computer name and click OK

  • Click Next again
  • Type a name in the Root Root name, for example to the public
  • Type a description or comment on the Comments column, for example, use for public

  • Click Next
  • Click the Browse button to retrieve the name of the folder that you share, such as MODUL-HL
  • Click OK
  • Click Next again
  • Click Finish to end it.
